  1. Peter was such a fantastic neighbour to my mum for many years as the kept an eye out for each other when either was away on holidays or just taking out or bringing in each others bins. Pete will be sadly missed in the Stanton street community. Condolences to all who are saddened at Pete’s passing, he is now at rest on gods care

  2. Condolences to Peter’s family . Many memories of Peter teaching me at secondary college then my daughter having the privilege to have him teach her also . Rest in peace Mr Durance .

  3. Durra, you’ve left behind so many memories (and photos, haha) which still make me and your mate’s chuckle.
School, Uni nights, pubs, bands, long weekends away, a beer or three, that cheeky grin, and some laughs.
You’ll always be remembered with a smile.

  4. Peter and I started our teaching careers back in 1987 when the high and tech schools amalgamated. We shared a house in the iconic Albion Rd teacher housing with Brenda (dec). Peter was a valued friend and colleague. Sincere condolences to his family on his passing. X

  5. Durra, Push-Button, Mega, (Peter?), You were a valued contributor and often exceeded the expectations of a uni student sharing a 5-bedroom house…..lots of drink, mess, tall stories and laughs. The end of year cramming often turned into hilarious all-nighters thanks, in no small part, to you. You’ve left too soon, but will always bring a big smile to our faces. Thanks!

  6. The community of Stawell Secondary College, especially both past and present staff, are deeply saddened to lose such a great man. Our recollections of Peter are of an intelligent, warm and generous colleague who had time for everyone, regardless of how busy he was. The world has lost a dedicated teacher, and we have lost a special friend. We are all thinking of Peter’s family at this difficult time.

  7. I will always remember our fun times at La Trobe Uni, and our Napier Street share house stories. You were always up for a chat, laugh and good time. May you rest in peace.

  8. Uni days were always fun with Durra. In his flannel shirt and push button car he was always up for a good laugh. Condolences to all. Jo

  9. Durra (Pushbutton),

This probably says more about me than you, but I’m struggling to recall our times in class at Uni.
Outside class, though, is another thing entirely!

I have such fond memories of our Tuesday (or was it Wednesday?) backgammon nights at Bunts’s place — the three of us drinking beers and Bundy, smoking, and listening to Rolling Stones albums up loud and on high rotation.

You were a founding member, with Hutch, Liz and me (and later Isabelle), of 497 Napier Street, Fitzroy — the 1984–1987 post-Uni house. So many great parties: the Red Party, the Scarf Party, and the famous Christmas Party (where we finally discovered, weeks later, the cause of that incredible smell — a bag of chops hung on the back side of the lounge room Xmas tree!).

    Rest well, young fella.

    Johno & Hutch xxoo
